How a football match works

Two teams of 11 play two 45-minute halves. Most goals wins. Draws are allowed in group stage; knockouts need a winner.

What is offside?

An attacker is offside if they're closer to the goal line than the last defender (excluding the keeper) when the ball is played to them.

What is a penalty?

A direct shot from 12 yards, awarded for a foul inside the box. One-on-one with the keeper.
